Beaches, cocktails and all-inclusive resorts: It’s a fairly simple but surprisingly successful tourism formula that the Dominican Republic has been doing for decades, with a record-breaking 10 million tourists visiting the country last year.
Not content with resting on the status quo, the Dominican Republic continues to build new resorts across the country, especially in Punta Cana, the de facto all-inclusive capital of the Caribbean.
Well, Punta Cana saw the arrival of a new resort this week with the opening of Secrets Tides Punta Cana, a 688-room resort located on the beach in Punta Cana’s Uvero Alto neighborhood and the latest addition to Hyatt’s adults-only Secrets brand.
The new Secrets is an all-suite resort with amenities such as 24-hour room service, an in-room coffee bar and a balcony or terrace in each suite.
“We are excited to announce the opening of Secret Tides Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic as we expand the Secrets Resorts & Spas brand in a country known for its beautiful beaches and romantic ambiance,” said Jordi Guillaumet, general manager of Secret Tides. “The Dominican Republic continues to be a popular destination for honeymoons, weddings and romantic getaways.”
The resort offers a Preferred Club with larger suites, personalized check-in, a private lounge, a club-only pool, and special sections on the beach and the main pool. The club also has an exclusive restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch.

Nine different dining concepts are offered, including a “Mediterranean fusion” restaurant, Meraki, and an Asian restaurant with hibachi tables, plus eight bars and lounges.
There will also be a Secret Spa by Pevonia, which will feature 10 single treatment rooms and six couples rooms, as well as a hydrotherapy circuit, sauna and steam rooms, Hyatt said.
Hyatt currently owns 17 resorts in the Dominic Republic and is set to open another hotel, the Hyatt Centric, in Santo Domingo later this year.
Hyatt is offering guests who book now up to 40 percent off stays through December.
