Punta Cana – The fourth edition of the Punta Cana Grand Prix cycling tournament will be held on June 7, 8 and 9, with competitors from more than 15 countries across the Caribbean, Central and South America.
More than 350 cyclists will take part in the tournament, which will consist of eight categories.
Sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Federation of Municipalities, the Presidency of the Republic and the Punta Cana Group, the main venue for the event is in front of the Blue Mall, from which the stages will start, going from Coral Highway to Higüey and the downtown Punta Cana district.
Organizer Mario de Jesus announced that $10,000 in prize money would be shared among winners in eight divisions, including two women’s divisions. The other divisions are Elite, Pre-Master, Master A, Master B, Master C, Recreational and Youth.
Kits will be distributed to participants in the food area of the Blue Mall from 2pm on Thursday, June 6. A technical meeting to discuss the rules of the event will be held from 6pm.
The competition will start at 7 am on Friday, June 7, with the first stage for the Recreational and Women’s Categories A and B covering a distance of 54 km, followed by the Masters Categories A and B on a 76.5 km route between Punta Cana and Higüey. The Elite, Under 23 and Youth categories will conclude the first day’s racing with an 84.1 km route from Punta Cana to the roundabout near Higüey.
On Saturday, June 8, the event will start at 7am at the Blue Mall, go to toll booth number two, return to the roundabout twice and finish in front of the Blue Mall.
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 9th at 1pm. Prizes will be awarded to individual winners, stage winners, false start winners, best Dominican winner and best team winner. Trophies will also be presented to the best athletes in each category. The event will be broadcast on the Punta Cana Grand Prix YouTube channel.
