Stations of the Cross in your favorite parish
Every Friday through March 28th, starting at 6pm, there will be a roughly hour-long “Way of the Cross,” a reverential devotional experience that allows participants to relive the various moments that Jesus of Nazareth experienced, from his arrest to his crucifixion, burial and subsequent resurrection.
Enjoy religious music
On Friday, March 22nd at 8pm, Regina Angelorum Church will present a free musical production, “Seven Words,” which tells the testimonies of people who have had a deep connection with Jesus Christ and reminisce about how His life has impacted their own lives, reflecting in song the seven words uttered by the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross.
March 24th, Holy Branch Festival
Witness a re-enactment of Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem with a re-enactment of the Blessing of the Palms and the Borico at 10 a.m. Sunday at Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes Sanctuary. Symbolized by the blessed palms, the event commemorates when the inhabitants of Jerusalem placed palm and olive branches before Jesus, welcoming him as King and as one coming in the name of the Lord.
Enjoy a sweet bean tasting: at the Quaresma Market in Billini Park, from 10am to 6pm, you can taste different kinds of sweet beans, each with its own unique flavour, made according to traditional recipes.
March 25th Holy Monday
From 5pm, the Regina Angelorum Church will host the Catholic Stations of the Cross for Holy Week, preceded by a mass and followed by the recitation of the rosary. Then, from 7pm, you can take part in the procession of Christ bound to a pillar and the Macarena, a moving scene in Christian art from the Passion cycle.
Holy Tuesday, March 26
Join us at the Santa Barbara Cathedral at 6pm for the Most Patient Jesus procession and let the Colonial District be enveloped in the deep love, devotion and passion of Jesus.
Holy Wednesday, March 27
After Mass at Nuestra Señora del Carmen Church, join the Jesus Nazarene procession at 5pm and experience the penitential season of Holy Week in Spain.
Holy Thursday, March 28
Attend a Holy Oil Mass at the Cathedral at 10am to bless the holy oils used in the sacraments and rituals, then experience a Foot Washing Mass at 6pm, recreating the action of Jesus when he had the Last Supper with his Apostles, and participate in Eucharistic displays at all monuments from 12pm until Good Friday.
March 29th Good Friday
At 1pm, attend the Sermon of the Seven Words in the Cathedral, followed by the Passion Celebration at 2pm. At 4pm, the Holy Burial Procession will take place in the Sanctuary of Las Mercedes, dramatically concluding the day in celebration of the Burial of Jesus Christ.
Holy Saturday, March 30
In celebration of Jesus’ resurrection, please join us for the Easter Vigil in all churches at 8pm.
Easter Sunday, March 31st
Attend Easter Mass in all churches, where the Easter Candle, representing the light of the Risen Christ, will be lit and will remain alight until Ascension Day.
