PUNTA CANA – In recognition of its incredible 15-year history, Punta Cana Carnival has received the “Cultural Event” award in Mercado magazine’s Best of DR 2024. Organized by Grupo Puntacana, this annual event brings together thousands of local and international visitors every year to 1st of November Boulevard in The Village Puntacana, showcasing vibrant artistic and cultural performances by a variety of national and international groups.
Heide Rainieri, Director of the Puntacana Group, accepted the award and expressed her gratitude: “We are very grateful to receive this award from Mercado magazine. We are proud that the efforts of our team who worked hard to put together such a special event for the entire Puntacana community and the province of La Altagracia are being recognized,” she said.
Dominican baseball legend George Bell, who made history as the first player in major league baseball to hit three home runs in an opening game in the 1980s and 1990s, was named King Momo for the 2024 tournament. Additionally, Las Musas de Punta Cana paid tribute to Dominican baseball players, recognizing their contributions to the sport and their role in raising the country’s international profile.
Since its inception, the Punta Cana Carnival has honored national figures who inspire Dominican society and promote arts, culture and sports. Past recipients include Oscar de la Renta, Juan Marichal, José Antonio Molina, Michel Camilo, Eddie Herrera and Milly Quesada.
