An American woman has filed a lawsuit against Hard Rock Cafe and Hotel in the Dominican Republic for $500,000 after falling from a golf cart and sustaining injuries, the NY Post reported.
The woman, identified as Taylor O’Leary of Brooklyn, New York, said she fell out of the buggy because the seat was slippery and wet. The incident occurred in July 2022 and left her with an unspecified number of injuries, according to a Brooklyn federal court filing.
O’Leary said he was a guest at the hotel when he was injured in the accident, suggesting the hotel and its corporate owner, Hard Rock Cafe International, are responsible for paying damages.
The 27-year-old woman was at the Hard Rock Gold Club in Punta Cana, an 18-hole golf course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus. The green fee is listed as $300.
Located along majestic Macau Beach, this 5-star luxury resort is frequented by pop icons like Shakira, Justin Bieber and Mariah Carey who love to relax here.
Seeking compensation for such incidents is not uncommon in the United States. Last year, a South Florida court jury awarded $800,000 in damages to the family of a girl who suffered second-degree burns when a hot McDonald’s Chicken McNugget fell on her thigh in 2019.
The family was awarded $400,000 for the suffering and mental anguish they have suffered over the past four years, and $400,000 for the future.
The incident occurred in August 2019, when Philana Holmes went to Tamarack McDonald’s with her son and daughter to buy a Happy Meal. When handed her order, she was given no warning that the food might be hot and immediately handed it to her daughter and son in the back seat and drove away.
Her daughter Olivia, a 4-year-old autistic child at the time, started screaming and crying after a McNugget fell on her thigh.
When Holmes pulled into a nearby parking lot to help the child, she noticed the burns and took a photo with her cell phone, which included an audio clip of the child’s screams, which was later used as evidence in court. Submitted to.
