According to local media reports and a company memo distributed to Trip Advisor, a fire broke out at Club Med Punta Cana early Thursday morning (September 12).
The company said the fire caused “significant damage” to the all-inclusive resort center, but guest rooms were not affected.
Club Med’s on-site team and local authorities in the Dominican Republic were able to quickly put out the fire, the hotel said.
According to local news, Dominican Today, the blaze spread throughout the complex, affecting several areas, including the reception, main restaurant and pool bar.
No serious injuries were reported, but one guest sustained minor injuries during the evacuation and was receiving necessary medical treatment, Club Med said.
“The resort team is providing staff and guests with all the support and comfort they need,” the company said.
At Club Med Punta Cana, most on-site activities and Hispaniola restaurant are open.
However, to ensure visitors have a good experience, Club Med offers guests staying at the resort the opportunity to finish their vacation at another property in the Dominican Republic, Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda, located just under a two-hour drive away.
Club Med said it “currently has teams on site assessing the necessary repairs” and would share an update as more information becomes available.
The exact cause of the fire and the full extent of the damage are unknown.
