“Arajet” was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 9th.
The Caribbean low-cost carrier (LCC) has teamed up with the Dominican Republic Film Board to invite industry partners to a screening of the Dominican film “Pepe.”
Open Jaw’s Natasha McEntee attended the event held at the TIFF Lightbox in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment District.


Written and directed by Dominican-born Nelson Carlo de los Santos Arias, “Pepe” tells the story of a young hippopotamus transported from Africa to Colombia to live in Pablo Escobar’s private zoo.
Following the screening, Open Jaw attended an intimate gathering where Arajette’s Chief Communications and External Relations Officer, Manuel Luna, congratulated Arajette on its first anniversary of serving Canadians and Canadians. Sit down and share Why do airlines participate in TIFF?

“We noticed that a lot of our customers were flying (on the Arajet to Santo Domingo) and then taking a bus to Punta Cana. So, make their life easier, just jump To Punta Kana?
“From now on, we will fly to Punta Cana, but we will also have buses available for those who want to go to Santo Domingo,” he said.
“And now we’re launching this route with a sale. You can fly from Canada to Punta Cana for just $33 (USD) plus tax.”
The response is telling: Luna said the airline has already sold more than 125,000 tickets in the first 11 months.
Allajet’s routes are operated by Boeing 737 Max jet aircraft.
“Currently we have 10 aircraft in our fleet, we are due to receive our 11th in January, and we plan to order 15 more by 2025 and a total of 45 by around 2028,” Luna told Open Jaw.
In the future, Arajette is considering entering the US market.


“If all goes well in the first quarter of 2025, we just need to wait for FAA approval. That will have a big impact on the Arajet.”

The LCC currently operates three times weekly flights to Santo Domingo (SDQ) from Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL), with plans to add three times weekly flights to Punta Cana (PUJ) in the fall.
