Weather-wise, this summer has been a “pebble in the shoe” kind of situation for airlines and cruise lines: not enough to cause major disruptions, but enough to cause some discomfort.
Helen is the latest storm with the potential to cause problems, with a tropical storm warning currently in effect for the Caroline Islands until September 16th.
Helen is expected to make landfall Monday afternoon near popular resort areas of Myrtle Beach, Pawleys Island and Conway, South Carolina.

Helen will bring wind gusts of up to 55 mph, waves up to 11 feet, heavy rainfall that could reach 10 inches, and the possibility of flash flooding. Several major airlines serve Myrtle Beach and other areas of North and South Carolina, and several major cruise lines visit Charleston, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina.
The storm is moving up the East Coast and could cause problems in Washington, D.C. Parts of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia may also be affected. Be sure to call your airline or cruise line or visit their website for the latest information on cancellation waivers and change fees.
