Club Med in Punta Cana suffered “extensive damage” in a fire in the early hours of September 12th.
According to DominicanToday.com, the flames quickly spread throughout the complex, affecting multiple areas including reception, the main restaurant and the pool bar. Tourists staying at the club were evacuated to safety and are currently taking refuge in nearby hotels.
Club Med released the following statement after the fire:
A fire broke out at Club Med Punta Cana’s resort center in the early hours of September 12, 2024. The resort center sustained significant damage, but guest rooms were not affected. Thanks to the fast and efficient response of our on-site team and local authorities, the fire was quickly extinguished.
No serious injuries have been reported, but one guest sustained minor injuries during the evacuation and is receiving necessary medical treatment.
The resort team is here to provide all the support and comfort you need for staff and guests, and most on-site activities and the Hispaniola restaurant are available for guests to enjoy.
Either way, to ensure the highest level of service and comfort for its guests, Club Med is currently offering guests staying at the resort the opportunity to finish their holiday at the neighbouring resort, Club Med Miches Playa Esmeralda.
We currently have a team on site assessing the repairs required and will provide an update as more information becomes available.
