RIU Hotels & Resorts has announced the reopening of the Riu Palace Bavaro in Punta Cana, the latest in a landmark renovation of the chain’s offering there and around the world. Following the demolition of the Riu Naiboa, which was located on the adjacent plot, Riu Palace Bavaro has expanded on its site with new space for its own establishments, providing ample space for its renowned innovative, gastronomic and entertainment areas, allowing them to diversify accordingly. The hotel has a family area with all kinds of water and outdoor activities, its own dining spots, an area reserved for elite club guests and a brand new food court accessible to everyone. All this in a more comprehensive culinary, entertainment and service package than ever before, characteristic of RIU hotels.
Of the hotel’s 994 rooms, 255 are designed for families and groups of friends visiting this destination. They have three spacious beds to share the same space and are located in the new Family Area of the Riu Palace Bavaro. Here, the youngest members of the family can enjoy the area designed for children, with a mini splash park, a pirate ship, a games park, a cinema, a multi-sports area, and eating places such as a patisserie, a taqueria, and a grill-style Pepe’s food station. The Kids Club in this space offers the above options, as well as diverse entertainment for three different age groups, such as a recreation room and a cupcake decorating station with RIU art. And there’s no other way. All hotel guests have access to the Splash Water World water park at the RIU complex in Punta Cana, which features the hotel’s nine pools. Of course, all guests over 18 can enjoy the four thematic RIU party evenings that are held weekly at the complex.
The 32 new food and beverage outlets at Riu Palace Bávaro offer something truly new compared to RIU’s almost 100 hotels around the world: a food court with all kinds of sweet and savory foods. Here, all hotel guests can enjoy a variety of food and drinks, including a pizzeria, a wok shop, a fried chicken area, a taqueria, another Pepe’s Food, an ice cream parlour, a sweet station with crepes, waffles and donuts, and a bar. This is definitely a major innovation for what RIU offers in this destination, allowing guests to try different types of products from different cultural cuisines.
In terms of culinary options, Riu Palace Bavaro continues to offer guests a wide range of restaurants, including the main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Krystal serving gourmet cuisine, an Asian restaurant, a restaurant serving Italian cuisine, a restaurant serving Mexican cuisine, a steakhouse serving a variety of cuts of meat, and the new American Country Diner serving up popular dishes from across the country. The introduction of Elite Club services also includes an Elite restaurant exclusively for guests who want to take their RIU experience a step further.
A total of 108 rooms are allocated to Elite Club guests, who will enjoy exclusive locations with the best views, 60 of which will have private pools. These guests will also have access to a pool with its own bar, priority check-in area and lounge bar. These bars and other drink points also offer premium drinks and à la carte breakfast. Likewise, Riu Palace Bavaro offers all the usual Elite Club benefits, such as premium spirits dispensers in the rooms, minibars with snacks and a bottle of wine, possibility of early check-in and guaranteed late check-out until 1 pm, welcome gifts and aromatherapy in the rooms, possibility of priority reservations in the hotel’s themed restaurants, etc.
In addition to new entertainment and culinary options, the renovation of Riu Palace Bávaro established the new style and design that Riu has adopted in all its renovated and new hotels: understated décor in muted and elegant tones and greater and more efficient use of natural light. This can be felt in the rooms and common areas of Riu Palace Bávaro, in the existing and new restaurants, and in all eight of the bars that currently exist, including the Sports Bar (open 24 hours), Joe’s Bar (best cocktails), the Lobby Bar, the Theater Bar, three swim-up bars, and the two already mentioned that are exclusive to Elite Club guests. In all these bars, in addition to the special quality improvements that only Elite Club guests can enjoy, all guests can enjoy major improvements in the quality and branding of their favorite drinks, which is now possible in all hotels with Elite Club service.
This impressive renovation, and all its innovations, have allowed RIU Hotels to expand its options and improve the quality of its products and services in the Dominican Republic. The opening of Riu Republica in 2016 and its expansion at the end of 2017 were followed by the renovation of Riu Bambu in 2017, the complete renovation of Riu Palace Punta Cana in 2018 and the most recent renovation of Riu Palace Macao at the end of 2023. Thus, RIU now offers a whole new hotel option in Punta Cana with a total of 4,528 rooms across five properties.
