Riu Hotels & Resorts has announced the reopening of the Riu Palace Bavaro in Punta Cana following an extensive renovation.
Following the demolition of the Riu Naiboa, on the adjacent lot, Riu Palace Bavaro has expanded its former site to create new space for its own facilities. Highlights include a family area with all sorts of water and outdoor activities, a separate area exclusively for elite club clients, and an all-new food court that’s open to everyone.
Of the hotel’s 994 rooms, 255 are designed for families or groups of friends traveling together, located in the new family area and equipped with three spacious beds to share the same space.
Designed with kids in mind, the youngest members of the family will enjoy a mini splash park, pirate ship, game park, cinema, multi-sports areas and dining locations including a patisserie, taqueria and grill-style Pepe’s Food Station.

The space’s kids’ club offers the above options as well as a variety of entertainment for three different age groups, including a recreation room and a cupcake decorating station by RIU Art.
The 32 new dining options at Riu Palace Bávaro offer something truly new compared to RIU’s nearly 100 hotels around the world: a food court with a full range of cuisines, from sweet to savory.
Here, all hotel guests can enjoy a variety of food and beverage options, including a pizzeria, a wok restaurant, a fried chicken area, a taqueria, a Pepe’s Food outlet, an ice cream parlour, a crepe, waffle and donut sweets shop, and a bar.
As for other culinary options, Riu Palace Bavaro continues to offer guests a wide range of restaurants, including the main restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, Crystal serving gourmet cuisine, an Asian restaurant, a restaurant serving Italian cuisine, a restaurant serving Mexican cuisine, a steakhouse offering a variety of cuts of meat, and the new American Country Diner serving American culinary classics.
The introduction of Elite Club services will also include an elite restaurant exclusively for guests who want to take their RIU experience a step further.
All hotel guests receive admission to Splash Water World water park at the RIU complex in Punta Cana, which also features the hotel’s nine pools, and all guests 18 and older can enjoy one of the four themed RIU party evenings held weekly at the complex.

A total of 108 rooms are currently allocated to elite club clients, offering exclusive locations with the best views, 60 of which come with private pools.
Elite Club guests also enjoy access to a private pool, priority check-in area, and lounge bar, along with all the usual Elite Club benefits at the Riu Palace Bavaro, including a premium in-room spirits dispenser, a minibar stocked with snacks and a bottle of wine, guaranteed early check-in and late check-out until 1pm, in-room welcome gifts and aromatherapy, and priority reservations at the hotel’s themed restaurants.
Apart from all the new entertainment and culinary options, the renovation of Riu Palace Bavaro establishes the new style and design that RIU has adopted in all its renovations and new build hotels: understated décor in subtle, tasteful tones that make greater and more efficient use of natural light.
RIU has invested heavily in its product in the Dominican Republic over the past few years, with the opening of Riu Republica in 2016 and its expansion at the end of 2017, followed by the renovation of Riu Bambu in 2017, the complete renovation of Riu Palace Punta Cana in 2018 and most recently the renovation of Riu Palace Macao at the end of 2023. RIU currently offers a total of 4,528 rooms across five properties in PUJ.
