The airline emphasized that it aims to increase passenger movement from Punta Cana Airport, the busiest airport in the country. The initiative aims to position the Dominican Republic as the continent’s new aviation hub.
Punta Cana Airport connects to 75 destinations in 34 countries through 58 airlines and serves more than 9 million passengers annually.
“This strategic partnership is in response to our mission to remain the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic by air traffic, hosting 68% of all tourist arrivals in the Dominican Republic. We would like to thank Alajet for inviting us, “as part of its expansion plans in the country aimed at promoting tourism,” said Giovanni Rainieri, PUJ’s Director of Airside Operations.
Alajet has surpassed the 100,000 passenger barrier for several consecutive months, cementing its position as Dominica’s largest airline by passenger traffic. This represents more than 7% of the total number of passengers traveling to and from the DR.
Manuel Luna, Alajet’s chief communications and external affairs officer, said in Toronto in September that the airline had sold more than 125,000 tickets in its first 11 months of operation.
Allajet routes are operated by Boeing 737 Max jets.
“Currently, we have 10 (aircraft), but we received the 11th in January, and we plan to finish with 15 in 2025, bringing the total to 45 on order by around 2028.” Luna told Open Joe.
Luna also said Alajet is considering entering the U.S. market.
He told the media in September that Alajet does not offer commissions, but does work with some travel agencies.
