Dominican Republic’s low-cost airline Alajet has officially begun operating from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ), further expanding its network across the Americas.
With this move, Punta Cana becomes Arajet’s second location in the country, with the aim of connecting the region’s major tourism hub with 14 new destinations in the Americas.
Alajet’s expanding route network from Punta Cana includes Kingston, Jamaica. Lima, Peru; Mexico City and Cancun, Mexico. Bogota, Cartagena, Medellin, Colombia. Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador. Toronto and Montreal, Canada. São Paulo, Brazil. Buenos Aires, Argentina. and Santiago, Chile.
Víctor Pacheco, CEO and Founder of Arajet, expressed pride in creating new opportunities for travelers to reach the eastern part of the Dominican Republic, calling the Dominican Republic “the most important tourist destination in the Caribbean.” It is the second most important center in the Americas. He added: “It is a firm commitment for Allaget to continue to democratize the skies and continue to connect the continent from Canada to Argentina with world-class service at the best market prices.”
This expansion is also consistent with Punta Cana Airport’s vision to improve passenger mobility and solidify its position as the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic. The facility serves more than 9 million passengers annually, connecting 75 cities in 34 countries through 58 airlines. Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Airside Operations at Punta Cana Airport, emphasized the airport’s commitment to innovation and expressed gratitude for the new partnership with Alajet. “This strategic partnership will allow us to maintain our position as the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic, hosting 68% of Dominican tourists,” he said.

Arajet’s recent growth represents a significant increase in its influence in the Dominican air travel market. The airline consistently carries more than 100,000 passengers per month, accounting for more than 7% of all passengers flying to and from the Dominican Republic.
