The Dominican Republic has made regional aviation a priority in recent years, actively encouraging the establishment of new regional airlines through tax breaks and other incentives.
Among them is fast-growing Alajet, which (as first reported) will begin operations in 2022 and continues to expand its Caribbean footprint. Previously, the company’s operations were based in Santo Domingo, but that has changed with the addition of a new second location in Punta Cana, the country’s tourism capital.
Most importantly, the airline has just launched new flights from Canada to Punta Cana, including flights from both Montreal and Toronto. This is not surprising given the enduring importance of the Canadian market to the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry.
“For Alajet, the addition of Punta Cana as a second hub is a firm commitment to continue democratizing the skies and connecting the continent from Canada to Argentina with world-class service at the best market prices.” said Victor Pacheco, founder and CEO of Arajet. Caribbean Journal.
So what is the new Caribbean Airlines flight?
The new service includes flights between the cities of Montreal and Toronto and Punta Cana.
Alajet also began service to Kingston, Jamaica, and Cancun, Mexico.
The company said it has transported more than 7% of all passengers to the Dominican Republic so far this year.
As an example, a flight from Toronto to Punta Cana costs approximately $363.19 round-trip, according to the Alajet website.
