Dominican low-cost airline Alajet has expanded its destination network with the official launch of operations from Punta Cana Airport (PUJ).
The airline will initially serve 14 destinations in and out of Punta Cana. These include Kingston, Jamaica; Lima, Peru. Mexico City and Cancun, Mexico. Bogota, Cartagena, and Medellin in Colombia. Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador. Sao Paulo, Brazil. Buenos Aires, Argentina and Santiago, Chile.
For the Canadian market, Alajet operates flights between Punta Cana and Toronto and Montreal.
The expansion makes Punta Cana the airline’s second base in the Dominican Republic, in addition to its hub in Santo Domingo.
“For Arajet, it is our firm commitment to continue to democratize the skies and continue to connect the continent from Canada to Argentina with world-class service at the best market prices,” said Arajet founder and CEO ( CEO Victor Pacheco said in a statement.
The airline said it aims to increase passenger movement from Punta Cana Airport, the country’s busiest airport. The initiative aims to position the Dominican Republic as the continent’s new aviation hub.
“This strategic partnership is in response to our mission to host 68 percent of tourist arrivals in our country and remain the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic. We would like to thank Alajet for the invitation, which is part of the country’s expansion plans aimed at promoting tourism,” Giovanni Rainieri, director of airside operations at Punta Cana Airport, said in a release.
