The Jimmy Buffett-inspired facility in the Dominican Republic, known for its island-inspired decor, margarita-flavored popsicles, floating taco bar and giant flip-flop sculpture, will soon be decommissioned.
Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana, managed by Karisma Hotels and Resorts, will soon close and be taken over by Hyatt Hotels Corporation, which will transform the property into Dreams Resort & Spa.
A notice posted on the Margaritaville Hotel’s website confirms this news.

“Margaritaville is always growing and changing, and while we continue to celebrate new locations, real estate coordinates may change. Margaritaville Island Reserve Resort Cap Cana will be open in November 2024 As of the 27th, it will no longer be part of the Margaritaville portfolio,” the post reads.
Hyatt said in a press release on Tuesday (November 19) that it has signed a management agreement with Cobo Bay Developers SA to build a new resort under the Dreams Resorts & Spas brand in the Dominican Republic by the end of the year.
The all-inclusive property has 519 guest rooms, including 40 villas and 100 swim-up suites, and “will be the ideal retreat for families seeking a Caribbean vacation.”
PAX has visited Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana twice over the years, since this playful facility opened in November 2021.
Inspired by the work of the late singer-songwriter, author, and entrepreneur Jimmy Buffett, this intimate space included dedicated sections for adults and families.
Surrounded by palm trees, the property’s pool featured oversized turquoise Margaritaville-branded Adirondack chairs submerged in shallow water, where guests could take Instagram-worthy photos.
Reserved for adults, the luxurious Island Reserve Villas are a private space comprised of 10 two-story buildings with four units each.
This property is located in an upscale gated community on idyllic Juanillo Beach, a stretch of white sand and pristine palm trees, approximately 10 minutes from Punta Cana Airport.
This exclusive neighborhood is home to one of Latin America’s largest inland marinas, two amusement parks, Los Establos Equestrian Center (with stables, equestrian arena, and polo field), and the Punta Espada Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course.
The new Dreams property will join other Hyatt hotels along the same beach, including Secrets Cap Cana, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana and Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana.

The new Dreams Resort features 10 à la carte restaurants, unlimited fine spirits at six bars, 24-hour room and concierge service, daily activities, daytime and evening entertainment, and 13 treatments. It promises a variety of amenities, including an 11,000-square-foot spa. room.
Kids can take advantage of exclusive programs at the Explorers Club and Core Zone Teens Club, while adults relax at one of the resort’s four pools and lazy river, two pickleball courts, tennis courts, and state-of-the-art fitness center. You can.
The resort also has a theater and flexible meeting space.
The new Dreams expands Hyatt’s footprint in the Dominican Republic. Nearly 20 hotels and resorts are expected to open in the destination by the end of 2025, with recent 2024 additions including Hyatt Centric Santo Domingo and Secret Tides Punta Cana.
