Set the scene
Upon arriving at Secret Royal Beach, you will be greeted by a glass of champagne, the tropical lobby of Art Decommeat, screaming Gatsby in paradise. Attracting the elderly crowds of elegant Italian women in idyllic dresses and elegant Italian women in playful American grandpa bottom jeans in the pool is a vibrant base for enjoying the lyrical majesty of Punta Cana.
Backstory
As a way to expand to the Caribbean coast, Hyatt has set up a secret branch and offers an inclusive stay for adults with a focus on beautiful beaches, relaxation and plenty of sobriety.
room
The soothing neutral palette, like most Dominican resorts, expect crisp white walls and light wooden furniture accented with whimsical touches like sliding doors open from the room to the toilet. Architecturally simple and has a layout that reminds you of a mediocre apartment, but the rooms make up for it with a tall, faint island decoration: dark wood headboards, luxurious bathrooms with double rain showers, smart details. The swim-up suite offers direct access to the water, but those looking for ocean views can book a balcony suite overlooking an endless blanket of blue waves. Whatever your preference, the rooms are all thoughtfully decorated.
Food and drink
Secrets Royal Beach has one main restaurant. This is an outdoor palm hut surrounded by sparkling ocean views. This all-day menu features international cuisine with Dominican and Italian influences. Guests dressed in white linen beachwear and sandy swimsuits in the morning, bright floral dresses and sharp white suits in the evening, burgers at lunchtime, fries and smoothies and taguriatel and seafood for dinner
Other dining options are also available, ranging from more refined dishes from the French restaurant Bordeaux to the extremely laid back barefoot grills on the beach that serve finger food. I couldn’t try all eight restaurants on the premises, but from talking with other guests about their culinary experiences it seems like the secret that Royal Beach consistently serves delicious food.
spa
The spa offers a rich, dog-relaxed experience in the sun, albeit modest. From swirling hydrotherapy circuits to gorgeous facials and pedicures, visitors often come back for more spa treatments each week. While at the nearby gym, I couldn’t help but notice the familiar faces arriving at the spa for their second and third treatments.
neighborhood
Punta Cana may not be the first destination that comes to mind when thinking about exploring nature, but Secret Royal Beach offers more excursions than most people. Near the reef where you can board a boat from the natural pool, boats gather for parties in the sky blue ocean and ivory sandy beaches, and snorkel among the plump orange starfish and shiny tuna, the secret may not be near the important town, but the outdoor excursion is completely surprising.
service
The language barrier can cause some stupid moments of confusion, but hospitality is universal in secret resorts. Always elegant, caring, and answering any questions you may have, the resort offers enduring butler services that don’t feel like an act. The staff feel that they are truly interested in you, always greet you with a smile and a “welcome home” and drink by the pool.
