You’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal in the Caribbean than this all-inclusive resort in the remote (and unremarkable) part of Miches. One of the few hotels in the area, it is just a short distance from the main tourist hub of Punta Cana. This means you can expect a truly tranquil tropical stay, with pristine beaches and plenty of opportunities to escape the hustle and bustle of the resort. In fact, my kids and I just returned from a 5-day stay at Viva Miches, so we’re in a very good position to give you a full-fledged review of this new and very promising resort. Read on to find out what to look out for and where to improve.
Needless to say, the all-inclusive aspect (including unlimited alcoholic beverages) is a huge advantage when planning a family vacation. Viva Mitches does it right by including family-friendly water activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling in their packages. It also includes a kids club, which my kids rated as the “best ever”, and nightly family entertainment. (Note: The entertainment team does a really great job, but the shows start a little late, so if you’re traveling with young kids, you’ll need to interrupt their bedtime a bit to get the most out of it.)
The pool is great and the beach is even better. We highly recommend taking advantage of our secluded location and walking beyond the resort’s boundaries for a mile of unspoilt and blessedly quiet coastline. As for the food, there are some real winners and some just so-so. (Guests also mentioned that it was difficult to make reservations for the a la carte restaurant.) Still, although there was no room service, we appreciated having somewhere to eat at any time of the day or night. That being said, the resort would do well to streamline the dining aspect and hire more staff to reduce wait times at the buffet and pool bar.
