Built in 1956, this iconic hotel is an Old Town Scottsdale property that boasts the perfect blend of mid-century architecture and modern amenities. The hotel has undergone several renovations over the years. Most recently in 2025, the hotel underwent an $18 million renovation of its guest rooms, which included new furniture while maintaining the original mid-century feel.

The hotel was designed by Edward L. Barney, a noted midcentury architect who studied with Frank Lloyd Wright. The latter is often considered the greatest American architect of all time. The triangular pattern seen in the hotel is a key design element of both architects.
The interior has a retro and chic atmosphere. Authentic 1960s style includes terrazzo floors, mirrored finishes, and mosaic patterns. There is a welcoming flow to the design that connects easily from the lobby area to the Zuzu bar and restaurant. The hotel’s colorful seven-story tower was expanded in 2005, but the original two-story exposed brick building remains a key element of the hotel. When the hotel first opened, Golden Age Hollywood stars, including Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, and Bette Davis, flocked to the hotel for vacation getaways.

An important decision is whether to book a room in the tower or in the original wing. Rooms in the original wing just underwent a major renovation in 2025, ensuring updated décor and amenities, while the tower rooms will also be renovated soon. While the original wing may appeal to those who prefer newly renovated interiors, the tower offers more expansive views. Choose from our spacious Terrace Suite or Executive Suite. For example, the Terrace Suite has approximately 850 square feet of interior space and a 900 square foot terrace.
The rooms are bright and airy, with vibrant colors to brighten up your stay. Making the most of natural light, the terrace suites offer a stunning wrap-around terrace, perfect for people-watching, simply enjoying your time or reading a good book.
The rooms feature a variety of unique décor, including a mini cocktail shaker that’s perfect for a future career as a bartender. There’s a handy Keurig coffee machine for those looking for a regular dose of caffeine, as well as luxurious red floral toiletries to enjoy in the oversized bathtub.
Eating and drinking
Renowned executive chef Russell Lacassie offers an eclectic menu at Zuzu. Service times are very long, with brunch available from 6am to 2:30pm, and dinner menus from 2:30pm to 11pm on weekends. Peruvian scallops on the half shell seem to be a very popular dish in Scottsdale. The flavorful version is served with Thai chili peppers, mint, chives, and ginger pepper ponzu, making it a refreshing dish perfect to enjoy in the Arizona heat.
For a taste of local cuisine, order the mushroom bolognese made with Sonoran pasta. We use traditional grains from this region that are highly nutritious. If you’re feeling brave, we’ve got a chef’s roulette menu for you. The menu is an amuse bouche followed by five courses from the creative mind of Chef Russell Lacasse. Each course also includes a bold drink.

The hotel has 2 outdoor pools. The main OH pool has a party atmosphere and often features DJs on weekends and special afternoons, but it will be closed during the upcoming holiday season and replaced by a roller rink. The fitness center is open 24/7 and features weights, high-tech circuit machines, and Peloton bikes.
