Avero is the first and only airline to offer direct flights between ILM and Punta Cana.

Avero is commemorating its first flight to Punta Cana this morning with a celebration at ILM with a Dominican flag celebration, sweet treats from ILM Airport and Avero fanfare. When you arrive in Punta Cana, you’ll receive a warm welcome with a water cannon salute and festive music.
“Our first international service from ILM to Punta Cana is an important milestone for Avero and Wilmington,” said Andrew Levy, founder and CEO of Avero Airlines. “The addition of this service provides customers with even more options. As the first and only airline to offer international service from ILM, we are making it more convenient and affordable for customers in the Wilmington area to enjoy the DR and our 15 popular flights.” At the same time, we make it easier for visitors to experience the best of coastal North Carolina. ”
ILM Airport Director Jeff Burke said, “We would like to thank U.S. Customs and Border Protection and others who helped prepare our facility to handle scheduled international commercial flights for the first time in ILM’s history. And a huge thank you to Avero for the wonderful Christmas present of launching international service to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic!”
Growing Avero at Wilmington International Airport
Avero established ILM as a crew and operations hub on April 3, 2025, and currently has two Boeing Next Generation 737 aircraft based at the airport. This represents the airline’s investment in Wilmington and will allow Avero to significantly expand its convenient, affordable and reliable air service throughout coastal North Carolina. Since entering service with ILM in June 2022, Avelo has carried more than 580,000 customers on approximately 5,000 flights.
To support its base, Avero continues to create more jobs in Wilmington’s aviation industry for individuals at all stages of their careers, including pilots, flight attendants, ground service and customer support.
Avero operates 15 nonstop flights from ILM. Boston/Manchester, NH (MHT). Detroit, MI (DTW); Nashville, TN (BNA); New Haven, CT (HVN); New York/Long Island (ISP); Philadelphia/Wilmington, DE (ILG); Punta Cana, DR (PUJ); Rochester, NY (ROC); Washington, DC/Baltimore, MD (BWI); Fort Myers (RSW); Orlando (MCO); Tampa (TPA); West Palm Beach (PBI).
America’s most reliable and convenient airline
Since entering service on April 28, 2021, Avelo has carried more than 8.6 million customers on more than 68,000 flights. Currently, Avero serves 41 cities in 15 states and Puerto Rico, as well as three international destinations: Jamaica, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
Avero ushered in a new era of convenience, choice and competition by serving primarily underserved regions of the country. Most routes in Avero include at least one small and convenient airport. This makes traveling with Avelo a smoother, easier and more enjoyable experience than dealing with crowds, congestion and long walks at large airports.
Avelo is distinguished by industry-leading reliability. In 2024, Avero ranked No. 1 in on-time performance and had the lowest cancellation rate in the U.S. airline industry. These results are provided by Anuv, a leading aviation data services company that is also used in the Wall Street Journal’s annual airline rankings. Anuvu’s complete industry results and rankings are available at AveloAir.com.
Avelo also provides world-class customer satisfaction, as demonstrated by its Net Promoter Score (NPS), which consistently ranks among the world’s best airlines and most admired brands.
Avero Airlines is launching Avero Plus in fall 2025, a new membership program offering exclusive benefits and discounts for travelers. Members enjoy discounted fares, free priority boarding, special promotions, a $50 renewal bonus, and the ability to share benefits with up to nine other users. Designed to add value and convenience, Avelo PLUS enhances the airline’s affordable offering by providing additional benefits to its loyal customers.
Avero also offers a variety of seating options. These include standard, stretch, and stretch+ seats. The stretch creates extra legroom and accommodates pitches from 32 inches to over 36 inches. The Stretch+ features a unique upgrade that blocks the middle seat for increased comfort and space. You can also purchase window and aisle seats before your flight. In addition to advanced seat assignments, Avero offers several bundling options to enhance your trip, including priority boarding, checked baggage, carry-on baggage and pets on board, giving you the flexibility to pay only for what you value.
