Dominican Republic’s low-cost carrier Alajet Air has officially launched a new non-stop flight route between Punta Cana (PUJ) and Cordoba, Argentina (COR) from December 1, 2025. This new service represents a major development in air connectivity between the Caribbean and Argentina’s interior, offering travelers a quick and convenient connection between the two regions.
Previously, passengers wanting to fly between Punta Cana and Cordoba would have to make multiple connections, with many choosing to fly through Buenos Aires. However, with Alajet’s new service, the airline aims to streamline travel between these two culturally rich regions of the Americas, expanding its network beyond Buenos Aires and providing direct access to other important cities in Argentina.
A new era of travel: connecting the Dominican Republic and Argentina
The introduction of this route marks a significant milestone for Alajet as it continues to expand its presence in South America. The Punta Cana-Cordoba line will operate five times a week, giving Cordoba residents direct access to the beaches and resorts of the Dominican Republic. This new connection has the potential to increase tourism to both regions, providing Argentines with an easy gateway to the Caribbean, and a convenient way for Dominicans and other Caribbean nationals to explore Argentina’s bustling inland cities.
Alajet has chosen to operate this route using the Boeing 737-8 aircraft, also known as the 737 MAX-8. The aircraft is known for its high fuel efficiency and low operating costs, allowing the airline to offer affordable fares while maintaining high standards of safety and comfort for passengers.
Regulatory backing: route approved by Argentine authorities
The launch of the PUJ-COR route is supported by formal government approvals from both the Dominican Republic and Argentina. In August 2025, the Argentine Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) authorized Alajet to operate multiple routes between Argentina and the Dominican Republic, including flights to Cordoba, Mendoza and Rosario. The decision was taken as part of a broader strategy to strengthen connectivity and further promote tourism within South America.
An official statement from Alajet Airlines said the airline had been in discussions with the Argentine government for several months to obtain the necessary approvals. Alajet’s entry into the Córdoba international aviation market will not only benefit Córdoba’s tourism sector, but will also provide a boost to business travel between Argentina and the Caribbean.
What this new route means for travelers
This route will be a game changer for travelers visiting both Punta Cana and Cordoba. Here’s why:
Direct connection: Previously, to travel between Punta Cana and Cordoba, passengers had to endure long layovers and connecting flights. The new direct flight eliminates this problem, saving valuable time and improving the overall travel experience. Affordable Travel: As a low-cost airline, Alajet is committed to keeping airfares affordable. This could make travel between the Caribbean and Argentina more accessible to more people, including budget travelers, families, and business professionals. Tourism and economic growth: Direct flights are now available, allowing more Argentines to visit Punta Cana, known for its beautiful beaches and thriving resort scene. Similarly, Dominicans and other Caribbean tourists can explore Argentina’s cultural and historical heart, with cities like Cordoba offering rich experiences in both urban and rural areas.
What to expect from Cordoba and Punta Cana
Punta Cana is one of the Dominican Republic’s top tourist destinations, known for its white sand beaches, all-inclusive resorts, and crystal clear waters. Visitors can enjoy a variety of water activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing, as well as vibrant restaurants and nightlife. The area is home to several family-friendly theme parks, and adventure seekers can explore national parks or try horseback riding in the lush landscape.
Cordoba, on the other hand, is located in the heart of Argentina and is a popular destination for locals as well as international tourists. Known for its colonial architecture, historical monuments, and rich culture, Cordoba offers visitors a more authentic Argentine experience. The city is surrounded by the beautiful Cordoba Mountains, making it a great place for hiking. Cordoba’s university and vibrant cultural scene also make it a young and dynamic tourist destination. Additionally, Cordoba is a short flight to the Mendoza region, so it’s often used as a gateway to explore Argentina’s wine region.
The future of Arajet’s expanding network
Alajeet has established itself as a key player connecting the Caribbean and South America. The route between Punta Cana and Cordoba is just the beginning. Following the success of this new route, Alajet is expected to continue expanding its network to other cities in South America, including Buenos Aires, Santiago and Lima.
Cordoba could serve as a springboard for further expansion into Argentina and other parts of Latin America, strengthening ties between both the Dominican Republic and South America. As more passengers begin to take advantage of this new route, Alajet Airlines will monitor demand and may increase the frequency of flights or introduce new destinations within Argentina.
Bright future for Arajet’s growth in South America
The launch of the Punta Cana-Cordoba route is a pivotal moment in Alajet’s expansion strategy, not only strengthening connectivity between the Dominican Republic and Argentina, but also offering new, affordable travel options for tourists and business travelers alike. This route strengthens the company’s position in South America and paves the way for further growth within the region.
With the takeoff of the new PUJ-COR route, Alajet will continue to offer travelers affordable, convenient and safe air travel to the most popular destinations in the Americas.
