Lying beneath the thatched roof of a spacious open-air pavilion surrounded by wildflowers, the sounds of healing bowls soothed me. The sound bath was followed by a juice session with a nutritionist, an afternoon hydrotherapy circuit and a back massage. I’ve spent the past three days at the Dominican Republic’s newest all-inclusive wellness resort, where amenities rival those of ultra-luxury hotels with four-figure nightly rates. Here, you can stay for under $500 a night. Far from being places that serve boring buffets and watered-down drinks, hospitality companies have been reinventing the all-inclusive model with more luxurious amenities and designer-approved décor,…

Four years later, they plan to open a second restaurant, a steakhouse called Frank & Sons, in the Ansonboro development on Gaines School Road. They have a son, but for now he’s too young to help out at the restaurant, according to Frank. Frank & Sons is just a few weeks away from opening. Frank says he and his wife have a Dominican background but love to cook all kinds of food at home, including steak. The restaurant will…

While this may give you peace of mind, you’ll be responsible for any costs incurred due to trip delays, cancellations, or interruptions. Having good travel insurance can help you avoid these sunk costs. A trip to the Dominican Republic is packed with activities, including watersports, hiking, and exploring the historic Zona Colonial. Families who want to travel together have to find that delicate balance: a way for the kids to have fun and for the parents to truly relax. It’s a tricky combination of priorities that, to be honest, rarely ever happens. As a single mom of four, I’ve tried everything: beach trips that are more for me than the kids; theme park visits that are more for the kids than me; hotels that don’t suit all of us; road trips that don’t suit anyone. But now I’ve found the sweet spot, not just for my family, but for most families, I think.…

My recent stay at Finest Punta Cana, the newest resort under The Excellence Collection brand in the Dominican Republic, changed all my assumptions about all-inclusive resorts. In my experience, staying at an all-inclusive resort usually requires some sacrifices. Family-oriented all-inclusive resorts often have large crowds, noisy restaurants, and splashes at the pool. Adults-only all-inclusive resorts solve these issues, but you can’t bring kids. And more affordable all-inclusive resorts often have lower quality food, worse service, and fewer amenities. But Finest Punta Cana sacrifices nothing. Opening in October 2021, this stunning luxury resort welcomes families but also has an adults-only section.…
